Police Investigate Altercation Between Officer and Minor in Meedhoo

The Maldives Police Service is investigating a physical altercation that occurred in R. Meedhoo last Thursday, involving an officer and a minor.

According to the police, the off-duty officer encountered a group of minors on the road who were being loud and shouting. The officer reportedly advised them to stop, but the minors verbally refused and declined to provide their details when requested.

The officer then instructed the minors to present themselves at the police station, at which point one of the minors allegedly physically assaulted the officer.

In addition, a complaint has been filed by the family of one of the minors, accusing the officer of assaulting their child. The police’s professional standards command is also reviewing the officer’s actions in response to the attack.

The incident gained public attention after CCTV footage of the altercation began circulating on social media.
