Police to Stop and Search Helmet Wearers in Non-Mandatory Areas

The Maldives Police Service has announced that individuals wearing helmets in non-mandatory areas will be stopped and searched.
In a statement issued late last night, the police explained that some people wear helmets in such areas to conceal their identities with the intention of committing crimes.

Helmets are mandatory in areas where vehicle speeds exceed 30 km/h, the police clarified. In Malé, helmets are required on the Sinamale’ Bridge and the highway to Hulhumalé.
The statement further emphasised that the police will continue to monitor individuals wearing helmets in non-mandatory areas and will stop and search those deemed suspicious. This measure, according to the police, is aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining a secure community.
