The National Drug Agency (NDA) discussed strategies to expedite the process of enrolling clients in its rehabilitation program during its 28th board meeting yesterday.

At the meeting, the NDA focused on improving the services they offer and explored measures to support and empower independent organisations working in the drug rehabilitation sector in the Maldives.

It was also agreed to accelerate the adjudication process for cases by the review committee, with the NDA stating that the decisions made in the meeting are expected to strengthen anti-drug efforts and expand treatment services. Additionally, the review committee was instructed to take action against individuals who fail to complete their rehabilitation treatment.

Currently, the NDA is running several anti-drug operations in collaboration with the police, and more than 100 drug users have been enrolled in the treatment program so far. This initiative targets individuals found in public places in an inebriated state, including those involved in criminal activities, sleeping in mosques, or on the streets, ensuring they receive the necessary rehabilitation treatment.
