Over 10 New Distribution Points Established in Male’ for Ramadan Tuna Distribution

Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has announced that the distribution of canned tuna will be expanded to 13 locations in the Male’ region starting today.

Initially, distribution was limited to five locations, which included the MIFCO Office Compound and MTCC site in Henveiru, the WAMCO site in Vilimale, the Umar Zahir Building in Hulhumale Phase 1, and the Hiyaa Flat Tower 10 Youth Centre in Hulhumale Phase 2.
Ministry confirmed that additional distribution points will be established at Galolhu Stadium, near the four staircases, Henveiru Stadium, the Social Centre, and two more locations in Hulhumale. A total of 13 locations will now be facilitating the distribution, with five counters set up at each site. Distribution will take place at night to accommodate residents.

Ministry also shared the distribution statistics for Thursday. A total of 9,394 cases were distributed, with 582 cases from Vilimale, 2,083 from the MTCC site, 3,666 from the MIFCO office, 1,555 from Hiyaa Tower, and 1,508 from the Umar Zahir Building.
Ministry reassured the public that the distribution will continue until all households in the city receive their Ramadan allocation, urging people not to rush as the process will continue until 28 February.
The distribution began on last Thursday evening at 8pm, with long queues forming at the centres even before the start time. Households are being provided with a 48-can case of tuna, with distribution based on electricity meter numbers. The initiative is expected to cover over 80,000 households in the Maldives.
The distribution centres in Male’ include the MIFCO Office Compound, Henveiru MTCC Sawmill, Vilimale WAMCO Site, Hulhumale’s Umar Zahir Building, and Hiyaa Tower 10 Youth Centre.
The State Trading Organisation (STO) has stated that further announcements will be made if additional distribution centres are added. Distribution across the atolls is being conducted by the respective island councils.
