In a statement issued yesterday, Immigration confirmed that the individuals are currently receiving medical treatment, with priority placed on their recovery. However, the cause of the food poisoning has yet to be determined.
Photos circulating on social media show the detainees being transported to the hospital in an ambulance, while police have cordoned off the hospital entrance.
The Hulhumale Detention Centre is used to house undocumented migrants who are awaiting deportation.
