Schools across the Maldives closed today for the annual holiday, coinciding with the upcoming start of the holy month of Ramadan, which is set to begin on Saturday.
Students collected their report forms on Thursday before commencing an extended break for the duration of Ramadan. According to the academic calendar released by the Ministry of Education, schools will reopen for the new academic year on 7 April.
The first term break is scheduled to begin on 24 July, with schools reopening for the second term on 10 August. The second term break will start on 25 December, and the new academic year for 2026 is set to commence on 27 January.
The decision to revert the start of the academic year to January aligns with a pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
