Authorities have urged caution as continuous rainfall has led to significant flooding in various parts of Malé City. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is actively working to mitigate the impact, placing sandbags in flood-prone areas and assisting with drainage efforts.

Police have advised against the use of heavy vehicles in the city until the flooding is brought under control and road conditions return to normal. The MNDF has also urged the public to avoid using four-wheeled vehicles unless absolutely necessary.

The heavy rainfall has resulted in water seeping into some houses, prompting further precautionary measures. The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued an Orange Warning from Baa Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll, including Malé City, indicating the likelihood of torrential rain and thunderstorms. Flooding is expected between midnight and 3 am.

The government has taken precautionary steps to address potential challenges posed by the adverse weather. President’s Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed stated on X that relevant agencies are working together to drain floodwaters and reinforce affected areas with sandbags. She confirmed that all necessary government bodies are closely coordinating efforts to assist the public and monitor the situation.
