According to the President’s Office, the renovated jetty pays homage to the old jetties used by Presidents Al Ameer Mohamed Amin and Uz Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. A design motif also honours the last King of the Maldives, Sultan Muhammad Fareed Al-Awwal, Keerithi Mahaaradhun.

The project to renovate the jetty was awarded to Maldives Transport and Construction Company (MTCC) last year.

During his speech, President Muizzu reiterated his commitment to prioritising the nation and religion while setting aside differences of opinion. He emphasised that progress cannot be achieved by remaining on the sidelines, stating that Islam encourages moving forward.

He urged the public to use this Ramadan, which began yesterday, to align their actions, take pride in their Muslim identity, and resolve disputes within families and communities.

The President’s Office announced that Sultan Park will be redeveloped within the next six months. He said the newly designed park will provide younger generations an engaging way to learn about history.

President Muizzu also revealed that MTCC will commence road development from the MTCC Ferry Terminal to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) building by the end of Ramadan. The project will include sheet piling, land reclamation, and the expansion of the road to accommodate two lanes. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
