Another Boat Sinking, MNDF On Scene

The Maldives Coast Guard is assisting the speedboat “Souvenir 34,” which began sinking today en route to Kaafu Thilafushi.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the Coast Guard’s 2nd Squadron responded after the vessel sustained damage and started sinking. The speedboat was carrying 38 people, and no injuries were reported, MNDF stated on X.

Rescue teams assisted the vessel at around 2:00 p.m.

Earlier today, another speedboat carrying 48 people from Alifu Dhaalu Dhigurah to Malé also sank. The passengers and crew were rescued and transported back to Dhigurah safely.

The Maldives has experienced torrential rain over the past 24 hours. The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) had forecasted rough seas, strong winds, and wave heights between three and seven feet.
