Minister Praises Police for Swift Rescue Operation After Speedboat ‘Huvan’ Sinks

Homeland Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihusaan has commended the Maldives Police Service for their swift response in rescuing passengers from the speedboat Huvan, which sank while sailing from ADh. Dhigurah to Malé.
The vessel, carrying 45 passengers and three crew members, encountered difficulties, prompting an emergency response from the police. Officers arrived at the scene promptly and successfully rescued all those who had fallen into the water.
In a social media post today, Minister Ihusaan praised the officers for their courage and dedication, stating, “The courage, bravery and determination shown by the Maldives Police in rescuing people from the sinking of the 48-person launcher Huvan is a matter of great courage and determination. This is a perfect example of putting the country above oneself in national service.”

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau also personally contacted the officers involved to express his gratitude. He highlighted their efforts in saving lives and emphasised the importance of strengthening rescue operations. The Commissioner noted that the officers had carried out their duties with dedication despite the incident occurring on the morning of the first day of Ramadan.
