The Ministry of Health has reduced the provisional registration period for doctors required to complete the Medical Council’s licensing examination.

Effective from 1 September 2024, the temporary licence will be valid for six months instead of the previous one-year period. The change, which was gazetted last week, aims to streamline the licensing process.

However, any provisional licences issued between 1 September and the preceding Saturday have been extended for an additional six months.

According to the Ministry, the adjustment was made as a six-month period was considered more appropriate, with the previous one-year duration deemed excessive for a temporary licence.

The validity of the permanent licence, granted upon passing the licensing examination, remains unchanged at five years.
