The initiative began yesterday at 9:30 am in front of Luxury Store in Maafannu ward, with Local Government Minister Adam Shareef inspecting the work.
According to the ministry, flooding on city roads is a frequent issue during rainfall. The Maldives National Defence Force, the police, and ministry officials have previously been involved in efforts to drain water from the streets.
The Malé City Council has been engaged in cleaning the drainage canals since the start of the year. To enhance drainage capacity, two new pumps have been introduced, each capable of discharging 11,356 litres of water per minute. Previously, the city relied on pumps with capacities of 900 and 1,300 litres per minute.
