Deputy Mayor Nareesh Resigns from Male’ City Council

Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh resigned from the council today, citing a new opportunity to serve the country. However, he did not disclose the position he had been offered.

In the resignation letter he posted on X in Dhivehi, he thanked the people from his constituency, Central Maafannu, for electing him for the position during the local council election held in 2021. He also thanked his team and the aid he received from both the People’s National Congress (PNC) and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) during his first run for the position.

Nareesh also expressed his gratitude towards the former Male’ City Mayor and current President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, for the relationship he maintained with him.

He also thanked fellow council members for their trust in him when they voted to elect him for the position of Deputy Mayor at such a competitive moment.
