The Ministry of Housing has extended the deadline for submitting complaints regarding the list of recipients for the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme until April 15th.
‘Gedhoruveriya’ is a social housing initiative originally launched by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration. The first 4,000 units were built in Hulhumale’ Phase II by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC). The MDP administration published the list of recipients for these flats in its final days, but the list soon attracted scrutiny from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which raised concerns over possible irregularities and corruption in the allocation process.
Following an investigation, the ACC ordered the suspension of further flat issuances. In February 2024, the Housing Ministry was given the green light to resume the process, after a thorough review of the applications, which had taken over a year. A revised list was published on February 27, 2024, after the verification process was completed.
In a recent announcement via the government gazette, the Housing Ministry stated that it was addressing concerns raised in complaints received about the list. Both eligible and ineligible individuals from the former administration’s list have submitted documents through the complaints portal.
The Ministry assured that complaints from those declared ineligible on the revised list would be reviewed, provided they can prove eligibility with supporting documentation from various government institutions. The Ministry has urged such individuals to submit detailed complaints via the portal.
To accommodate individuals who may have been unable to submit complaints earlier, the Ministry has decided to extend the complaint window until April 15th, in light of the upcoming government holidays between Thursday and April 5th.
Complaints can be submitted through the Gedhoruveriya Portal, or, for non-applicants, via email at gedhoruveriya@infrastructure.gov.mv or by letter to the Housing Ministry.
