The government has opened more than 50 key infrastructure development projects to foreign investors during the Maldives-Malaysia Business Forum 2025.

The forum, held in Kuala Lumpur as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Malaysia, attracted a large number of Malaysian investors and business leaders.

A total of 52 projects across various sectors in the Maldives were presented for investment opportunities. These projects cover areas including infrastructure development, health, higher education, sports, airport development, tourism, fisheries and marine development, energy, the creative economy, banking and finance, and information and communications technology.

Several initiatives outlined in President Dr Muizzu’s presidential manifesto were also opened to foreign investment. Among these are the development of a tourism training facility, a national art school, a medical school with a teaching hospital, a faculty of agriculture and food science, a fisheries college, as well as projects in medical tourism and sport fishing development.

Speaking to PSM News on the sidelines of the forum, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, said the projects have been offered to investors in line with the President’s vision. He highlighted that the projects would be available through direct foreign investment, private partnerships, and joint ventures with the government.

He noted that a key feature of the current investment opportunities is the clarity provided to potential investors, including detailed information about each project, estimated investment costs, expected timeframes, and partnership structures.

Business forums have previously been organised during President Dr Muizzu’s state visits to countries such as India, the United Arab Emirates, and China. The government plans to continue holding similar forums in other countries to promote investment opportunities in the Maldives.
