Islamic Ministry Distributes MVR 5,000 to Each on Poverty Registry

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has distributed MVR 5,000 to each individual registered on the poverty registrar. The distribution was made to those listed in the official poor registry, which currently includes 2,852 people.

This year, a total of MVR 13.2 million was collected in property zakat, marking an increase from the MVR 12.7 million distributed last year. Previously, each individual received MVR 4,000, according to data from Zakat House.
Additionally, the ministry reported a record collection of Fitr zakat, which reached MVR 13,264,819 by the end of the collection period. The ministry had decided in March to distribute Fitr zakat equally among all individuals on the poor registry.
The ministry stated that this decision was made to promote social justice.
