Villa College Students Excel in Chinese Language Examinations

Villa College’s Chinese Language Centre (CLC) celebrates exceptional success in Mandarin proficiency exams, marking a growing interest in Chinese language learning across the Maldives.
Students from Villa College’s Chinese Language Centre have achieved outstanding results in internationally recognised Chinese language proficiency exams held in May 2025.

Young learners sitting the YCT (Youth Chinese Test), tailored for school-age students, earned a flawless 100% pass rate. In the more advanced HSK (Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì) and HSKK (HSK Speaking Test), 21 students attempted Levels 1 to 3 and HSKK Level 1, with 20 successfully passing, reflecting a remarkable 95% success rate.
Since the Centre began hosting Chinese language exams in January 2025, it has completed two successful exam cycles, certifying over 50 students in Mandarin proficiency in just six months. These results highlight not only the academic quality of the programme, but also the increasing enthusiasm among Maldivian students for the Chinese language and culture.
These certifications are more than exam outcomes; they serve as gateways to meaningful academic and professional opportunities. The HSK qualification is a recognised requirement for entrance to Chinese universities and for eligibility in scholarship programmes sponsored by the Chinese government.
Domestically, Mandarin fluency is becoming increasingly valuable in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, healthcare, education, and international business, where cross-cultural communication is key.
