The Maldives and the Commonwealth of Dominica have signed an agreement for the mutual exemption of visa requirements for their citizens.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday, 9 July. Under the new arrangement, nationals of both countries will be permitted to travel to each other’s territory without a visa for a period of up to 30 days.
The signing took place at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations in New York. The agreement was signed by the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN, Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, on behalf of the Maldivian government. Philbert Aaron, the Permanent Representative of Dominica to the UN, signed on behalf of the Dominican government.
The visa exemption agreement aims to strengthen bilateral relations by facilitating increased travel and people-to-people exchange. It is also expected to create new opportunities for cooperation between the two island nations.
