The project to develop an immigration office in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll has been awarded to Mets, a sole proprietorship based in Mahibadhoo.
The new office will be established in Mahibadhoo, with practical work now underway. The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at the Alifu Dhaalu Atoll Council on Tuesday. Council President Ali Naseer signed the agreement on behalf of the Council, while Mets was represented by its owner, Ali Riza.
Under the terms of the agreement, the project must be completed and handed over within one month. Once in operation, the office is expected to provide immigration services directly to residents of the atoll, improving access and reducing the need to travel to Malé for such services.
The initiative is included in the Council’s official work plan for the current year. It also aligns with the government’s broader policy to decentralise key public services. President Dr Mohammed Muizzu’s administration launched a nationwide effort to expand access to national identity cards and passport services on 16 November last year.
