Ibrahim Shujau, the Member of Parliament for Baarashu constituency and vice president of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), has been replaced on the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee, following a request from his own party.

The announcement was made by Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla during today’s sitting. Shujau, who was the chair of the committee, was succeeded by Ahmed Rasheed, the MP for Ihavandhoo.

This marks the second committee change involving Shujau in two days. On Monday, he was removed from the influential Public Accounts Committee and reassigned to the National Development and Heritage Committee. Guraidhoo MP Hanan Mohamed Rasheed was appointed to replace him on the Public Accounts Committee.

The changes come as Shujau faces scrutiny over an alleged leak of a confidential Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) report currently under investigation by both the Maldives Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The document, which circulated on social media, reportedly details transactions involving companies linked to Shujau and two of his family members.

According to the leaked report, the businesses allegedly received MVR 42.5 million from state institutions between November 2023 and January 2024. Among the companies named is Quick Sure, reportedly affiliated with Shujau, which is said to have received MVR 10.5 million from the Malé City Council — where Shujau previously served before his election to parliament in 2024.

Shujau has strongly denied any wrongdoing. In a statement published on the social media platform X, he acknowledged the transactions but maintained that his businesses have always complied with the law.
