Ihavandhoo Council Unveils Plans for Fishing Boat–Shaped Jetty and Monument
The Haa Alif Ihavandhoo Council has announced plans to construct a distinctive jetty and monument in the shape of a fishing boat, celebrating the island’s rich fishing heritage.
The initiative aims to reflect the cultural significance of Ihavandhoo, which is renowned across the Maldives for its longstanding ties to the fishing industry.
The project follows a growing trend among Maldivian islands to erect monuments that symbolise their unique identities and traditions. In line with this approach, the council has designed the structure to serve both as a functional jetty and a cultural landmark.
A 3D rendering of the proposed jetty and monument has been unveiled and is now open for public review. Islanders are invited to provide feedback through a dedicated Google Form by 14:00 on Sunday.
According to the council, the proposed harbour will make a striking impression upon approach to the island, appearing as a large, modern boat.
The design includes seating areas within the structure, providing a relaxing space for residents and visitors. An open-air coffee spot on an upper level, accessible via stairs, will offer panoramic sea views and a communal gathering area.
