Education Ministry To Allocate New Space For Scout Association Headquarters and Shop
The Education Ministry has announced that a new space will be allocated to the Scout Association of Maldives for its headquarters and shop within the upcoming week.
The announcement follows the temporary closure of the Association’s former headquarters and Scout Shop, which were based at the old Arabiyya School building on Chaandhanee Magu. The facilities were shut down last week after the Association was unable to secure an alternative location when instructed to vacate the building.
The old Arabiyya School building also accommodates the headquarters of the National Cadet Corps and stores various items belonging to the Education Ministry. The structure, however, is in a severely deteriorated condition, with damage to its pillars. Arabiyya School was relocated from the site in 2022 after the building was deemed unsafe.
Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu said the authorities are preparing to vacate and demolish the building due to its worsening condition. The Ministry has begun relocating its belongings and has issued notices to both the Scout Association and the Cadet Corps to vacate the premises.
The Minister confirmed that arrangements are being made to provide an alternative office space for the Scout Association and a new location for the Scout Shop within the upcoming week.
