The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, in partnership with global e-commerce company Alibaba, has organised a one-day workshop in Malé to support local businesses aiming to access international markets.

The event, held at Barcelos Nasandhura, brought together more than 700 participants both in person and online from across the Maldives. The workshop focused on building the capacity of local businesses to utilise online platforms effectively for expanding their product reach abroad.

Sessions were conducted by senior executives from Alibaba, who provided guidance on practical steps such as setting up seller accounts, advertising, and selling products. The training also introduced participants to the platform’s artificial intelligence tools for identifying global market trends.

The programme further addressed financing options for online trade, along with opportunities in shipping and logistics, enabling participants to better understand the full process of international e-commerce.

Alibaba, which operates in over 200 countries with millions of active sellers, presents Maldivian businesses with significant opportunities to connect with global consumers. The platform features more than 400,000 products daily across 5,900 categories, offering local enterprises an extensive avenue for growth and expansion.
