President Embarks on Eight-Day Tour of Four Atolls, Starting With Vaavu Atoll

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed on an official eight-day visit to the inhabited islands of Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, and Thaa Atolls yesterday afternoon.
According to the President’s Office, over the course of the trip, he will visit all 31 inhabited islands in these atolls.
During the visit, the President will meet Island Councils and Women’s Development Committees to discuss development priorities and local needs, while engaging directly with residents to hear their concerns. The tour includes visits to five islands in Vaavu Atoll, five in Faafu Atoll, eight in Meemu Atoll, and 13 in Thaa Atoll. He is accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior Government officials.
President Assures 12 Hectares of Land Reclamation in Fulidhoo
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assured that 12 hectares of land will be reclaimed in Vaavu Atoll, Fulidhoo, alongside the harbour development project. He said the initiative cannot proceed without community endorsement, and practical work will begin next year once residents’ approval is confirmed.
Highlighting Fulidhoo’s growing local tourism sector, the President said the project should preserve the island’s natural beauty. He also pledged to install a US dollar ATM before March next year and confirmed that the Health Centre Extension Project would expand resources into a 20-bed facility.
During the visit yesterday, he inaugurated Fulidhoo Harbour development works and BML ATM services, witnessed the signing of a volleyball court agreement, and announced that work on the island’s futsal ground would begin later this year. Council members highlighted land erosion, additional health staff, a multi-purpose school hall, and sports facilities, and the President assured that the Government would consider these concerns.
President Meets Thinadhoo Community, Pledges Harbour Solution
President Dr Muizzu met with senior officials and residents of Vaavu Atoll, Thinadhoo, yesterday. The Island Council highlighted urgent development needs and thanked the President for ongoing infrastructure and healthcare projects.

The President assured that the Government would address their concerns, noting that the harbour remained the most pressing issue and pledging a sustainable solution. He also inaugurated ATM services and pledged to install a US dollar ATM before March 2026. The meeting was attended by Cabinet ministers, senior officials, the Island Council, and heads of local institutions.
President Pledges Development Projects and Service Expansion in Felidhoo
Addressing residents of Vaavu Atoll, Felidhoo, yesterday, President Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and governance in line with Islamic principles. He urged citizens to engage in fact-based discourse, citing the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act.

He announced the launch of the National Identity Card and passport issuance services, marking the completion of ID card rollout across all atolls. At a meeting with local councils and institutions, members raised concerns about land limitations, school space, and the need for a sea ambulance.
The President highlighted upcoming projects, including a 30-bed hospital, a new school building, an indoor Fitness and Recreation Centre, a 12-hectare land reclamation project, and the expansion of the sea ambulance fleet.
President Announces Keyodhoo Land Reclamation to Begin Next Year
President Dr Muizzu announced that land reclamation in Vaavu Atoll, Keyodhoo, will start early next year. He said the project, pledged during his campaign, is crucial for the island’s development and has been included in next year’s budget.
During the visit, agreements were signed to build a new 20-bed health centre and a four-storey school building, and the foundation was laid for a new Council Secretariat. The President said the school would provide additional facilities and central air conditioning to resolve electricity issues.
Acknowledging Keyodhoo’s growing tourism sector, he pledged to install a US dollar ATM before March next year. Council members highlighted urgent needs, including health staff shortages, school electricity issues, and jurisdiction over the adjacent lagoon. The President assured that the Government would give due consideration to these concerns.
