President Amends Jurisdiction of Thaa Atoll Madifushi

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu amended the geographic jurisdiction of Thaa Atoll Madifushi on Thursday by designating Ufuriyaa and Kolhufushi, in the same atoll, within its jurisdiction. 

The move follows the President’s pledge to place the islands under Madifushi’s administration.

The decision was formalised through Decree No. 24/2025, issued under the authority granted to the President by Section 56-1 (a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010). The provision empowers the President to determine and designate the jurisdictions of both City and Island Councils.

In line with the decree, a revised chart outlining the updated geographic jurisdiction of Thaa Atoll, Madifushi was codified and published in the Government Gazette.
