Health Ministry Awards Contracts For New Health Centres on Five Islands

The Ministry of Health has awarded contracts to two companies for the development of new health centres on five islands.

The projects will cover health facilities in Guraidhoo, Madifushi and Gaadhiffushi in Thaa Atoll, Kun’burudhoo in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, and Feeali in Faafu Atoll. The contracts were granted to the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

WAMCO will undertake three projects. In Guraidhoo, the existing health centre will be upgraded to hospital status at a cost of USD 2.12 million, with completion targeted within 325 days. Gaadhiffushi will also see its health centre upgraded to a hospital through the construction of a new building valued at USD 830,090, also scheduled for completion in 325 days. A new health centre will be built in Madifushi for USD 839,090, with the same completion timeframe.

The agreements for these three projects were signed by WAMCO’s General Manager of Business Development and Marketing, Ismail Ubaidh, and State Minister of Health, Ismail Abdulla, on behalf of the government.

MTCC has been awarded contracts for two further projects. In Kun’burudhoo, a new health centre valued at USD 521,776 is to be completed within 300 days. In Feeali, a health centre project worth USD 1.4 million is expected to be completed within 360 days.

The agreements for these projects were signed by MTCC’s Deputy Managing Director, Mohamed Jamsheed, and State Minister Ismail Abdulla on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
