President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described the forthcoming 900th anniversary of the Maldives embracing Islam next year as the most significant and historic milestone for this generation of Maldivians. He made the remarks in a national address marking the anniversary of the day the Maldives adopted Islam.

The President said the Government plans to commemorate the milestone with nationwide programmes designed to revive Islamic and national spirit while fostering greater unity among citizens.

Reflecting on the nation’s heritage, he noted that historians over the past nine centuries have described Maldivians as hospitable, peace-loving, well-mannered, and generous. He added that the nation’s natural beauty is complemented by the timeless Islamic moral values that have been deeply rooted in Maldivian society.

Emphasising his Administration’s priorities, President Muizzu stressed the Government’s responsibility to nurture wise Maldivian citizens, provide proper education and upbringing for children, and implement infrastructural development. He also highlighted the importance of national unity, kind speech, and a strengthened love for the religion.

Concluding his address, the President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the Maldives as a strong Islamic state and a nation devoted to defending the Ummah.
