Three Arrested In Male’ Drug Operation

Police have apprehended three individuals in connection with a drug operation conducted in Male’ city on last Thursday night.

According to authorities, the suspects were arrested on suspicion of both using and dealing illicit drugs. The operation was carried out by officers from the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement units under a court order.

During the raid, officers recovered a hand-rolled cigarette suspected of containing narcotic substances and several rubber packets from two separate houses in the capital. The seized items collectively weighed approximately 1,246 grams.

The individuals arrested in the case have been identified as 31-year-old Mohamed Aish Ahmed and 25-year-old Aminath Illiyyin Ahmed, both from Ma. Mazaage, Male’, and 34-year-old Inayath Ali from Mariaaz, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.

Following their arrests, Mohamed Aish Ahmed was remanded in custody for 10 days, while Aminath Illiyyin Ahmed and Inayath Ali were each remanded for seven days.

Police have confirmed that the investigation into the case remains ongoing.

Inayath Ali is a well-known media personality currently serving as one of the senior presenters at Public Service Media (PSM). She also produces and broadcasts programmes on Voice of Maldives and has hosted several government ceremonies. Inayath is presently the host of Heyyambo, one of the country’s longest-running variety shows.
