The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation after a disturbing video surfaced on social media showing a group assaulting a young boy inside a deserted house on a northern island in the Maldives.
The graphic footage depicts the child being severely beaten. Two of the assailants are clearly visible, with one repeatedly striking the boy on the head. Another individual, whose leg is only partially visible, is seen kicking and throwing the child to the ground.
Police confirmed that they are aware of the video and are working with the Family and Child Protection Service, along with the local island police station, to investigate the incident. Authorities have also urged the public not to share the video further in order to safeguard the child’s wellbeing.
Details about the individuals involved, including whether any of the assailants are minors, have not yet been disclosed.
This case bears resemblance to a similar incident in mid-2024 in Rasdhoo, North Ari Atoll, where a video circulated online showing a child being bullied and assaulted. In that case, a special police team was dispatched to investigate after footage emerged of a child being beaten and drenched with water.
