The Adhaalath Party has decided to collaborate with other political parties to ensure President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu addresses alleged breaches of the constitutional system, economic challenges, and the fundamental rights of Maldivian citizens.
In a statement released last night, the party stated that the constitutional system has broken down, citizens have lost their rights, the economy has worsened due to the government’s irresponsible policies, prices of goods have risen, small businesses have failed, and the country is on the verge of bankruptcy. The party warned that there is a risk that the independence and sovereignty of the Maldivian people could be compromised as a result.
“Given the public’s concern about the previously mentioned issues, the Adhaalath Party has urged the government to be held accountable for the sake of Islam, the Maldivian nation, and its citizens, and to initiate discussions with political parties to ensure governmental accountability,” the statement said.
The Adhaalath Party stated that by changing the constitution, the members of parliament had breached their independence and privileges. The party also said that the dismissal of Supreme Court judges went against legal procedures and infringed upon the judiciary’s independence.
“The Maldivian economy has fallen apart because of the Dr. Muizzu administration’s incompetence, causing a rise in the prices of basic goods in the market,” the statement said.
Adhaalath argues that from the very first day of his administration, false promises were made about improving the Maldives’ economic situation, and that the country’s fiscal policy has been disrupted.
The party stated that the government lacks concern for the difficulties experienced by ordinary citizens, and that because of theft, corruption, and negligence by government officials, Maldivians are depleting their finances.
