The Maldives Police Service has conducted exercises in Malé and Hulhumalé.
The drills were carried out on Wednesday and Thursday to assess the preparedness of its officers.
While the Police confirmed the exercises through a social media post, they did not provide further details about the nature of the operations. Photographs circulating online showed officers equipped with shields blocking roads, appearing to engage in crowd control training.

The exercises took place in the lead-up to a major protest planned for Friday, organised by the main opposition party. Participants from across the country are expected to join the demonstration. Police have expressed concern that the event could lead to unrest and believe it may be used to incite violence, although the party has denied these allegations.
Meanwhile, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has launched a special operation to inspect vessels operating in Maldivian waters. The initiative follows a rise in incidents involving unlicensed vessels and violations of maritime safety regulations.
