First Lady Sajidha Mohamed said women serving in uniformed bodies are guardians of peace and powerful symbols of possibility within society during yesterday’s opening ceremony of the Maldives Women in Policing Summit 2025, held at CROSSROADS Maldives.

The summit, held under the theme “Empowered Women: Safer Communities,” brought together various stakeholders to discuss ways to advance the role of women in security professions.

In her address, the First Lady noted the diverse contributions of women serving in policing, defence, customs, immigration, and other uniformed services. She said these women not only uphold the law but also inspire future generations through their leadership and commitment.

Sajidha also pointed to the increasing complexity of global and regional security challenges, including cybercrime, human trafficking, climate-related disasters, and violent extremism. She stressed that women have a vital role in addressing these issues and encouraged young women to view security professions as fields where they can excel and apply their strengths.

The First Lady further emphasised the importance of empathy, dialogue, and prevention in modern policing. She noted that victims, especially women and children, are more likely to seek help when they see themselves represented among those who serve. She called for the creation of workplaces where women are viewed not as exceptions but as equals, stating that when a woman steps forward to protect her community, she reshapes the meaning of justice.

During the ceremony, the First Lady also unveiled the official Maldives Women in Police Challenge Coin.
