The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded the contract to construct a new campus for the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) in Maamigili, South Ari Atoll.

The contract was formally handed over during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island on Monday. The agreement was signed by IUM Vice Chancellor Dr Ali Zahir on behalf of the university, and RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem representing the corporation.

The new campus will include an administrative office, a library, five classrooms, a multi-purpose seminar hall, and a staff accommodation block. The facility will be built on a 22,000 square feet plot of land.

Although the project is being implemented within its allocated budget, the authorities have not yet revealed the total cost or the expected commencement date for construction.

During a public meeting in Maamigili later that evening, President Muizzu highlighted his administration’s focus on improving access to essential services across the islands. He pointed to initiatives such as the installation of ATMs on all inhabited islands as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen services in rural communities.
