The High Commission of India in the Maldives (HCIM) has announced that it will hold the next edition of its ‘Open House’ on 31 October, providing a platform for Indian nationals in the Maldives to raise grievances and share suggestions on various issues.

According to the Commission, the Open House aims to address matters related to labour and welfare, passport services, and other consular concerns. The initiative forms part of HCIM’s ongoing efforts to maintain communication and support within the Indian community residing in the Maldives

The High Commission has requested attendees arrive by 2:30 p.m. at its office located on Hithigas Magu, Goalhi-4 in Phase 1, Hulhumalé.

Indian nationals with further queries have been advised to contact the Commission’s Welfare Officer via mobile number 7361452.

The event, held annually, invites Indian nationals to present any difficulties they may be facing and to discuss possible solutions directly with officials from the Commission.

HCIM has scheduled this Open House at a time when the State Bank of India (SBI) recently announced that the outward remittance limit for Indian Nationals will be reduced. The decision, effective 25 October onwards, will see the limit reduced from 400 USD to 150 USD (MVR 2,313). SBI attributed the decision to reduce the limit to a temporary shortage of USD.

HCIM said that they are working with the Maldivian government to mitigate the situation, and help resolve the issue at the earliest.
