MPL Successfully Concludes UNCTAD Modern Port Management Program

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), in collaboration with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), has successfully concluded the UNCTAD Modern Port Management Program today, with a total of 19 participants.
This specialised training initiative is aimed at enhancing the capacity and professionalism of the Maldivian port sector.
The third cycle of the program, which spanned over a year, officially concluded with the completion of Module 8: Technical and Human Resources Development Management. This final module, which began on October 18, focused on critical areas such as Human Resources Development, Policy Management, Annual HR Planning, and the identification and fulfilment of HR and recruitment needs.
Participants of the program included staff from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Hithadhoo Ports Limited (HPL), Kulhudhuffushi Ports Limited (KPL), and Maldives State Shipping (MSS).
Throughout this cycle, participants successfully completed all eight modules of the program, which are as follows:
- International Trade and Transport
- Organization of a Port System
- Functioning of a Port System
- Challenges of Sustainable Ports
- Methods and Tools of Modern Port Management
- Commercial and Economic Management
- Administrative and Legal Management of Ports
- Technical and Human Resources Development Management
The UNCTAD Modern Port Management Program is designed to enhance the knowledge and leadership skills of port professionals. Its ultimate goal is to support the sustainable development and modernisation of the Maldives’ maritime industry. MPL remains committed to expanding training and professional development opportunities for Maldivian port staff. By empowering local talent, MPL aims to strengthen not only the central port operations in the Malé-Hulhumale region but also regional ports such as Hithadhoo Ports Limited and Kulhudhuffushi Ports Limited.
As part of its long-term vision, MPL will continue to invest in capacity building and international partnerships to ensure that Maldives’ ports remain competitive and efficient in the region.
