The Ministry of Housing has issued registries to more than 2,000 recipients of land from K. Gulhifalhu as part of the ongoing land allocation process.
The Ministry began issuing registries on 12 July and has since handed over a total of 2,032 registries to eligible recipients. Authorities have extended the deadline to request appointments for those who have yet to collect their registries to next Thursday.
Reclamation work on Gulhifalhu began in July 2024, with the project awarded to Dutch-based company Boskalis for USD 120 million (MVR 2 billion). The previous government conducted the initial draw to determine land recipients; however, the current administration has since revised the land use plan twice. Following a re-draw held on 30 May under the updated plan, the Ministry has started issuing the revised registries.
The current administration has also amended the Gulhifalhu land plot agreement, citing inconsistencies with existing laws.
