The Maldives Police Service has announced temporary road closures near the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu to allow for ongoing redevelopment work.
According to a statement shared on X, the closure will affect Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Fish Market to the President’s Office. Adjacent sections of Chaandhanee Magu near Jumhooree Maidhaan and parts of Ibrahim Hassan Didi Magu will also be closed during the works.
Parking will be temporarily prohibited on roads from the Fish Market to the State Trading Organisation (STO) People’s Choice on Orchid Magu, and on the remainder of the road beyond that point. The closures will take effect from 8 PM on 3 November. Police have not provided a date for when the roads will reopen.
The redevelopment project, first announced by President Mohamed Muizzu during the inauguration of the renovated Izzuddin Jetty, is being carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). It includes widening Boduthakurufaanu Magu to two lanes in each direction, partial reclamation, installation of underground infrastructure, and new paving.
Project updates released by MTCC on September indicate that sheet piling and installation works for the first phase have been completed, with the phase nearing completion. President Muizzu has stated that the entire project is expected to be finished and inaugurated by the end of 2025.
