Police Inspect Over 350 Locations in Gang Crime Suppression Operation
Officers carried out checks in 361 areas between 7 and 8 November in the Greater Male’ area, questioning 68 individuals.
The Maldives Police Service’s Gang Crime Suppression Department has inspected more than 350 locations to strengthen community safety.
According to police, officers carried out checks in 361 areas between 7 and 8 November in the Greater Male’ area, questioning 68 individuals suspected of involvement in gang-related activities or found in areas known for gang operations. Officers also conducted six hours of foot patrols during the operation.

Police said they inspected three vehicles and towed one, though details regarding the vehicle’s seizure were not disclosed.
The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology shared earlier this year that there are 83 gangs operating nationwide with more than 3,500 active members. Of these, 45 gangs are based in Malé City, involving 85 children and over 2,500 members, while 31 gangs are active in the atolls, with 10 minors among more than 1,000 members.
