Maldives and UAE to Establish Joint Tourism Working Group

Maldives and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to establish a Joint Tourism Working Group, marking a significant step towards deeper bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim and UAE Minister of Tourism and Economy Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri. The discussion took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Tourism General Assembly, held from 7 to 11 November.
The working group aims to promote sustainable tourism development, explore renewable energy solutions within the industry, and enhance human resource capabilities across the tourism sector.
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment stated that the initiative is expected to strengthen relations between the two countries and support mutual growth and innovation.
Minister Thoriq’s participation in the UN Tourism General Assembly, where he also served as Vice-President, highlighted the Maldives’ commitment to global tourism leadership.
This year’s assembly, themed ‘AI Powered Tourism: Redefining the Future,’ emphasised the industry’s focus on utilising advanced technologies to drive future growth.
