The Government of the Republic of Maldives has strongly condemned the attack in Islamabad that claimed the lives of at least 12 people and injured more than 30.
In a statement, the government reaffirmed its firm opposition to all forms of violent extremism and criminal acts, regardless of their motivations. It extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Pakistan. The Maldives also wished a swift recovery to those injured.
The suicide bombing occurred at the entrance of Islamabad’s District Judicial Complex yesterday, according to Al Jazeera. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attributed the attack to “India-backed proxies” operating from Afghanistan.
In response, India, where a car explosion on Monday evening killed at least 13 people, rejected the allegations, describing them as “baseless and unfounded.”
The Maldives emphasised the importance of international cooperation to combat violent extremism and uphold peace and security in the region.
