The application deadline for six scholarship opportunities under the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS), funded by the Government of Japan, has been extended until 1 December.

Applications for these scholarships, which opened on 22 September, were originally scheduled to close on 10 November. The extension provides additional time for eligible civil servants to apply for postgraduate studies at leading universities in Japan.

A total of six scholarships are available across three Master’s programmes: Master of Arts in Economics or Master of Arts in International Development at the International University of Japan (IUJ), Master of Arts in International Relations at Ritsumeikan University, and Master of Science in International Cooperation Policy at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). All programmes are conducted in English, and an IELTS test will be arranged for applicants without a valid certificate.

The scholarships are fully funded by the Japanese government and cover tuition fees, travel, living expenses, and return costs.

Eligibility is limited to Maldivian citizens aged between 22 and 39 as of 1 April 2026. Applicants must be full-time civil servants, or permanent employees of independent institutions, the judiciary, or the legislature, with a recognised bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.

An online information session for interested applicants will be held on 20 November, with registration available through the provided link. Further details and application guidelines are available on the official JDS Maldives website.
