Over MVR 7 million has been used in IVF financial assistance

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has reported a significant rise in spending on financial assistance for In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatments, with more than MVR 7 million utilised so far this year.

According to the agency, a total of MVR 7.1 million was disbursed from the Fertility Care Trust Fund between January and the end of last month, marking a notable increase from the MVR 4.7 million spent during the same period last year.

NSPA stated that support has been extended to 93 women seeking fertility treatment, with successful outcomes recorded for 23 individuals.

Alongside NSPA’s welfare-based assistance, the Aasandha health insurance scheme is also currently providing financial coverage for IVF, resulting in two separate funding avenues being made available for those pursuing fertility care.

Expanding access to infertility treatment was among the commitments made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who pledged to introduce Aasandha coverage for affected couples within the first 100 days of his administration.

Further arrangements have been made to ensure IVF services are available at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
