Man Previously Convicted of Safe Theft Rearrested for Intimidation

A man previously convicted of stealing a money safe from a pharmacy in Malé has been rearrested on suspicion of intimidating individuals.

Abdulla Muthuim Mohamed, a native of GDh. Gadhdhoo, appeared before the Criminal Court for a remand hearing in the latest case on Saturday. The state requested that he be jailed pending the trial, but the judge ordered Muthuim to remain in police custody for 15 days, noting that a decision on detention pending trial will be determined during proceedings.

Muthuim was convicted in 2020 for breaking into the Central Medical Center in Malé with a group of others and stealing a money safe, for which he was fined MVR 28,800. 

In 2022, he was arrested again on suspicion of luring a person to the Shark Fins guesthouse in Malé, holding the individual hostage, and assaulting and robbing him.
