Forty students have been awarded full scholarships to pursue master’s degrees under the National Project for the Restoration of Dhivehi Heritage.
The certificates of selection were presented yesterday at a ceremony held at the Islamic University of Maldives, attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
The programme is jointly organised by the Islamic University of Maldives and the National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research. According to the Ministry of Language, Culture and Heritage, the initiative forms part of broader national efforts to safeguard and revitalise Dhivehi heritage.
The selected participants will conduct research across 40 specialised fields with the aim of generating scientific knowledge to strengthen national identity and independence. Their work is expected to be published across various social media platforms once the programme commences.
Minister of Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim said the administration is working to advance national understanding of Dhivehi identity and heritage. He noted that the President’s policy focuses on nurturing generations of thinkers capable of examining the origins, values, and development of the Maldivian nation through scientific frameworks that reinforce nationalism.
The Minister also highlighted upcoming developments in the heritage sector, including the introduction of immersive technologies to create new income opportunities from heritage sites. He stated that these efforts are intended to shift long-held public perceptions of heritage and encourage deeper reflection on national identity, religion, and language.
