Former Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam has dismissed rumours suggesting she is preparing to join the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), insisting she has no reason to support the current administration.

In a posts on her social media accounts, Rozaina—who serves as president of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Women’s Wing—rejected claims that she is considering a political shift. She emphasised that throughout her career she has never made decisions based on financial incentives or the prospect of political appointments.

Rozaina noted that she joined the MDP shortly after former president Abdulla Yameen took office in 2013, a period when the party was not in a position to offer her any political advantages. She also highlighted that she held no government position during the MDP’s years in power.

Addressing speculation fuelled by the recent defection of her close friend, former youth minister Ahmed Mahloof, who joined the PNC last week, Rozaina said the rumours had no basis. She argued that the current administration has shown little progress in the Meedhoo constituency, claiming several projects initiated during her tenure as MP have stalled.

Rozaina also levelled broader criticism at the government, accusing national institutions including the Bank of Maldives (BML), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), and STELCO of being exploited for personal gain by senior officials.

Responding to allegations surrounding corruption and land allocation, she firmly denied claims that she had received multiple plots or foreign properties. She clarified that she received one plot in Gulhifalhu through the Binveriya housing scheme’s draw, similar to other eligible applicants. “I have never been and will never be for sale,” she said.

Rozaina began her political career with the former Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) under ex-president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, before shifting to the MDP where she has since become one of the party’s most outspoken figures.
