The remaining 13 locations comprise a mix of lagoon plots and islands allocated for general resort development. These include three 200-hectare lagoon plots from Maadhuni Faru in Haa Alifu Atoll, two lagoon plots from Kelaa Falhu in Haa Alifu Atoll measuring 156.3 hectares and 169.3 hectares, two additional 200-hectare lagoon plots from Makunudhoo Faru in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, three 200-hectare lagoon plots from Maafaru in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and three 200-hectare lagoon plots from Gonaa Faru in Shaviyani Atoll.
The Ministry has stated that virtual information sessions will be held on 6 December and 6 January for interested parties. Participants are required to email their name, email address and phone number to planning@tourism.gov.mv by 12:00pm on 6 December and 5 January respectively.
Bid submissions have been scheduled for 11:00pm on 3 February. Application forms to purchase bid documents are available on the Ministry’s website, while the bid documents themselves can be purchased from the Ministry’s reception on the fifth floor of Velanaage between 9:00am and 12:00pm from 23 November to 2 February.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu previously announced on 27 June the government’s intention to designate islands for halal tourism, offering investors significant incentives as part of a broader strategy to diversify and enhance the Maldives’ tourism sector.
