Statistics from Maldivian Airlines indicate that 1,800 patients were transported between March and October 2024, with 1,562 trips conducted during this period.

The air ambulance service operates around the clock and is staffed with trained emergency personnel. A sea ambulance service has also been launched. The initiative is jointly overseen by the Ministry of Health, NSPA, and Aasandha.

Prior to the establishment of the dedicated service, emergency medical transfers were carried out using helicopters and Donier aircraft with assistance from Maldivian and the Maldives National Defence Force.

The introduction and expansion of the air ambulance service forms part of a presidential pledge to enhance emergency medical access across the country.
