Former presidents Mohamed Nasheed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have praised the work of Fayyaz Ismail after he announced his resignation as chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Former president Solih thanked Fayyaz for his service, stating that his tenure covered periods when the MDP governed as well as when it served in opposition. He said Fayyaz worked tirelessly — often under difficult circumstances — to lead the party through both phases. Solih added that the entire party acknowledges Fayyaz’s contributions and said he wishes him blessed days ahead, along with continued progress for the party.

Former president Nasheed wrote on X that Fayyaz was a leader who never hesitated in carrying out the party’s work, noting that he showed no fear even when he was jailed. He extended his well-wishes to both Fayyaz and the party.
