Maldives Customs has announced the launch of a study to assess the time taken at each stage of processing imported goods, from their arrival in the country to the completion of documentation and final release.
The Time-Release Study is being conducted in collaboration with experts from the World Customs Organisation and follows the organisation’s established standards. Data collection for the study will take place from 23 November to 27 November.
The process involves Maldives Customs Service, port operators, relevant government agencies engaged in import and export procedures, and customs brokers. The study aims to measure key elements of the clearance process, including the time taken to unload cargo upon arrival, the submission of documentation, the duration required for processing and completing paperwork, the determinations made by state authorities, the time needed for customs inspections, and the release of goods from the port.
The objective of the study is to enable businesses to better estimate clearance and release times for imported goods and to identify areas for improvement across customs, port operations and other agencies involved in import and export procedures. The findings will also allow the comparison of current performance with data gathered during the Time Release Study conducted in 2021, providing an assessment of progress.
