President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has broken ground for the Darul Salaam Waqf building in Hulhumalé yesterday.
He was accompanied by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, at the ceremony held at Plot No. 11646, the designated site for the project.
According to the President’s Office, the 12-storey development, spanning 20,000 square feet, has been awarded to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) at a value of MVR 244.5 million. The building is scheduled for completion within two years.
The project follows the commencement of the Darul Arqam Waqf building, whose foundation was laid on 20 November 2025.

In a post on X, the Minister of Islamic Affairs said preparations are underway to launch two additional Waqf projects. He said one building will be dedicated to the Holy Quran, as pledged by President Muizzu, while another will be developed through Zakat investment. Both are expected to be launched in January.
Further Waqf buildings are planned for Thinadhoo City, Kulhudhuffushi City, Addu City, and Vilingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll. Contracts for these projects have also been awarded. Revenue generated from the developments will be directed towards programmes that support and promote Islamic unity across the Maldives.
